For the best Online Training experience:

  1. Able to work independently without an instructor present.

  2. Familiar with the use of a computer and common software.

  3. Knowledge or understanding of the applicable regulations.

  4. Fluent in the English language.

  5. It is recommended you use Internet Explorer.

  6. High-speed connection is recommended, but not required.

  7. You can log in and out of the training program at any time, and as often as you wish (except during the exam where you must complete the course in one sitting) Logging out during the exam will lock you out of the program and the entire exam must be taken again.

  8. Log out if you must leave your desk. The program may lock up if your computer is left idle for more than 10 minutes.

  9. Ensure sound is turned on and the volume is up as these courses have audio files.

  10. Read instructions in the introduction to the program to learn how to navigate through the program.

Shippers who prepare dangerous goods shipments for highway transit using the 49CFR regulations.

Who should take this course:

Air Shipments - Initial

Who should take this course:
Any
hazmat employee who needs to understand how to use the IATA Dangerous Goods Regulations (DGR). This includes:

  • Shipping personnel who prepare and sign the shipping papers for air transport.

  • Personnel responsible for classifying hazardous product.

  • Anyone else who meets the definition of a "hazmat employee" and who needs to understand how to read and interpret the IATA Air Regulations.

Who should take this course: This one course includes all the required Will-Not Carry Modules for Part 121 and 135 carriers, all job categories.

Biological Substance Category B Only (IATA) 
(Formerly Diagnostic or Clinical Specimens)


Who should take this course: Required training for UN 3373 only. Covers all IATA regulations to ship this
one substance only and associated fixatives (i.e. formalin, alcohol, formaldehyde, etc). 

If you ship dry ice (UN 1845) or liquid nitrogen (other than "dry shippers") you will need to take the DOT Security Training,
as well as additional function specific training or take the full Infectious Substance course instead which covers dry ice and liquid nitrogen.

Consumer Commodity (DOT and IATA)

Who should take this course: Companies who need to meet the General Awareness, Safety and
Function Specific Training requirements of the DOT and IATA and ONLY ship items classified as a
“Consumer Commodity” either under DOT rules (ORM-D) or IATA/ICAO (Class 9).

  • Warehouse workers who package shipments and mark and label boxes

  • Shipping personnel who complete and sign the shipping papers

  • Truck drivers who only handle consumer commodities

  • Management personnel responsible for classifying hazardous products

  • Anyone else who meets the definition of a “hazmat employee” and who needs training ONLY because they are shipping consumer commodities.

Driver Training - Basic

Who should take this course: Suitable for drivers who do not inspect cargo. If someone else is inspecting the package (i.e. verifying package spec numbers, contents, etc.) and the driver is only transporting the product, this course will meet the requirements. 
Otherwise the DOT Motor Carrier Acceptance training course is required.

Examples:

  1. Route driver who picks-up already inspected cargo at carrier / forwarder and delivers to customer.

  2. Trucking company where someone on the dock does all the inspecting of packages before they are given to a driver to take out for delivery.  Thus, the driver only needs to have the basic awareness, safety and security training plus the driver function specific training.

  3. A trucker who just transport one hazard product.

Dry Ice       

Who should take this course: Companies who need to meet the General Awareness, Safety and Function Specific Training requirements of the DOT and IATA and ONLY ship items classified as Dry Ice” either under DOT or IATA/ICAO

Excepted Quantities
(DOT and IATA Small Quantity Exceptions)


Who should take this course:
Choose this course if ALL of your inner packaging (i.e. a bottle) are 30 mL (1 oz) or less and the total gross weight of the package is 29 kg or less.  There are some additional restrictions under IATA (Air) such as a total volume limit per package of one pint to one litre or less, but in general, if you never ship anything larger than this may be the only training you need.

This course is also very good as an add-on course to give you additional function specific training in this topic.

General Awareness and Safety (49CFR(DOT)/IATA/IMDG)    

Who should take this course: Employees of companies who handle any type of hazardous material and only need to meet the General Awareness and Safety training requirements.  This also suitable for employees for function specific training for marking and labeling if they’re just following instructions and are not involved in any decision making regarding the handling, preparation or shipment of the product.

  • Warehouse workers who package, handle, mark or label shipments of hazardous materials

  • Truck Drivers (they may need additional function specific training in addition to this course)

  • Management personnel who need a basic awareness of hazardous materials.

Infectious Substance - Full Course (IATA)  
    
 

Who should take this course? Any person involved in the packing or preparation of "Category A" Infectious Substances, UN2814 or UN2900. You must take this course if you are shipping specimens that meet the criteria of "Category A". See Course info for a list of "Category A" items.  This course includes DOT Awareness and Safety Training and Dry Ice training.

Magnetized Materials - (IATA/ICAO)


Who should take this course? Companies making shipments of Magnetized Materials by air. Training based on ICAO/IATA Regulations and packing instruction 902. Magnetized materials under DOT rules are either totally forbidden (173.21) or not regulated. So, this training is based on the commercial airline rules in IATA and the ICAO regulations.
